ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

Started on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is about raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. World AIDS Day is important for reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done.

The theme for World AIDS Day 2011 is 'Getting to Zero'. After 30 years of the global fight against HIV/AIDS, this year the global community has committed to focusing on achieving 3 targets:

"Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths".

Backed by the United Nations, the “Getting to Zero” campaign runs until
2015.

World AIDS Day

In the end one cannot avoid the conclusion that AIDS unites certain human themes — homosexuality, sexual disease, and death — about which society actively resists enlightenment. These are things that we are unwilling to address or even think about. We don't want to understand them. We would rather fear them.

~Martin Amis, "Making Sense of AIDS" (1985)

♥ Guess I’m going on semi-hiatus status- not a real hiatus, because I know I wouldn’t be able to keep my hands off my computer for very long, but basically I’ll be reading/commenting/posting less on LJ for a while. Because school is a bitch. Which is getting more and more demanding *sighs* And with exams and all I really have to study.

♥ I’m going to do a small friends-cut-- I wasn’t even sure if I should write this because it makes it sound kind of a threat when it really is not- but well, I didn’t want some people to find themselves suddenly cut out, so I thought it would be nice to inform beforehand.
My f-list is far from being huge, but since sometimes I post personal stuff and pics (lately not so often, yeah) I feel more comfortable knowing I have on my f-list people I --‘know’? ...well, people I’ve spoken to at least once.
Nothing personal.
If I cut you, you probably won’t even notice because we have no contacts whatsoever. Thinking about it, if I cut you, you probably aren’t even reading this.
If you do notice though, you probably won’t mind that much because it’s just my personal stuff that is locked-- which is boring, I know. So, no hard feelings.
I’m not going to cut people out of the blue. But, just so you know.

♥ I’m pretty sure I had something else to say, but I forgot.
Another proof that I need more sleep- possibly during the night, not the day. **big big sigh**

Well, I hope y’all are okay!

Love and hugs all round :)
